For this one-time special release, the barrel staves were seasoned outside in the open air for 13 months; more than twice as long as the distillery's traditional aging time. According to Buffalo Trace, this allowed the staves to dry out much more completely before the whiskey was barreled.

Although it's technically a non age stated product, according to the original press release, Cured Oak was aged for 17 years in Warehouse C.
