Old Forester’s ‘The 117 Series, High Angels’ Share Barrels’ Bourbon, released in 2021, pays tribute to the fascinating phenomenon where significant evaporation occurs during maturation, often leaving behind a concentrated spirit. This limited edition is part of the 117 Series, a line created by Old Forester’s Master Taster Jackie Zykan to explore unique barrel characteristics. The “High Angels’ Share” designation highlights barrels that lost more than usual to evaporation, a nod to the unpredictable nature of aging whiskey in Kentucky’s climate. Bottled at 110 proof, this release showcases Old Forester’s innovative spirit and rich heritage, dating back to 1870 as America’s first bottled bourbon. Collectors and enthusiasts value these small-batch bottlings for their rarity and the insight they offer into the nuanced effects of maturation within the historic Old Forester warehouses.
