Personalized for "Bud Grell"— bottled in Louisville while Julian Van Winkle II was still alive but Julian III was officially working for his father, within Stitzel-Weller but post Norton-Simon acquisition.
Many enthusiasts view these early, personalized squat bottlings as the first version of the modern "Lot B", since the age was usually between 11 and 12 years and the proof was lower, usually 90.4 or 94.4.
It's not uncommon to see Van Winkle bottles from this era with earlier glass moldings and later bottling dates. This is a very clean example of an early personalized Old Rip VSS.
Distilled: Fall 1967
