Four Gate 'Split Stave by Kelvin' Bourbon is a unique expression from Four Gate Whiskey Company, celebrated for its innovative approach to barrel finishing. This 7-year-old Kentucky bourbon was released in collaboration with Kelvin Cooperage, an esteemed Louisville-based cooperage with roots in Scotland. The "Split Stave" name refers to the custom barrels used for aging—constructed from alternating toasted and charred staves—adding a distinctive twist to traditional maturation. Bottled at 116.1 proof, each release reflects the partnership’s creativity and commitment to pushing boundaries in American whiskey. Four Gate’s limited releases, like this one, quickly garnered attention from collectors and enthusiasts for their inventive use of finishing techniques and their connection to Kentucky’s rich bourbon heritage. The bottle’s label pays homage to its origins, highlighting both Four Gate’s modern spirit and Kelvin Cooperage’s long-standing tradition in barrel-making.
